Sex Work
Like other marginalized populations, sex workers face significant barriers to HIV prevention and treatment. The stigma associated with sex work, combined with the prosecution of sex workers and the socioeconomic and physical threats many sex workers face, contribute to these barriers. Effective advocacy strategies seek to empower, rather than shame or punish, the sex worker community, and are often most successful when led by sex workers themselves.
This HIV Policy Resource Bank category includes materials on sex work related to human rights, HIV prevention and treatment, and HIV criminalization, and incorporate issues related to gender, violence, race, and LGBT rights.
