ABA 2024 HIV Law & Practice Conference
CHLP Executive Director S. Mandisa Moore-O'Neal and Staff Attorney Jada Hicks will present at the ABA's HIV Law & Practice Conference on April 15-16 in New Orleans.
On Monday, April 15, Jada will be a panelist for HIV Criminalization: A Call to Action (CLE) workshop from 2:15– 3:30pm CT. The landscape of HIV-related criminal law is changing rapidly. Panelists will provide an overview of HIV criminalization, summarize recent litigation and legislative strategies, and issue a call to action for legal practitioners working in advocacy and direct client services to halt and reverse this alarming threat to HIV prevention and public health.

On Tuesday, Mandisa will present in the Litigation Plenary from 9:00-10:30am CT. Many of today’s core legal and policy protections for persons living with HIV were won by lawyers litigating cases in state and federal courtrooms. This panel will provide updates on long-pending cases, evolving legal theories, and how the courts and government agencies are protecting – or perhaps harming – people living with HIV.
