Recent state laws and executive orders have targeted gender affirming care for transgender youth. While seemingly narrowly aimed at controlling the health and bodily autonomy of a marginalized population representing approximately 1% of Americans, these laws represent the vanguard of coordinated attacks upon bodily autonomy and public health. Through an examination of previous legal cases through a medical lens, as well as ongoing litigation at both the state and federal levels, presenters will show attendees how legal cases not directly implicating equitable access to reproductive care in fact have, and will continue to have, a profound impact on that care. Cases and laws not naming reproduction, not naming sex or race, are being used to kick open the back door and attack deeply enshrined rights. After establishing this shared framework through which the view the legal and political landscape, presenters will share ways that providers can protect care for their most marginalized patients.
