HIV and the Law: How Infectious is the Virus? A Webinar for Prosecuting Attorneys

The Association of Prosecuting Attorneys' June webinar, co-planned and coordinated with The Center for HIV Law and Policy, entitled “HIV and the Law: How Infectious is the Virus?” will be held on Friday, June 27th, 2014 from 3:00-4:00 pm (EDT).

The diagnosis and treatment of HIV patients as well as their ability to infect others has changed dramatically since the beginning of the epidemic. Upon receipt of a referral alleging criminal exposure, many prosecutors, investigators and victim advocates are not aware of the advances in medicine and the likelihood that the conduct described in the report will or will not spread the virus.

Dr. David Wohl, MD, Associate Professor and Site Leader of UNC AIDS Clinical Trials Unit at Chapel Hill, Director of the North Carolina AIDS Education and Training Center and Co-Director of HIV Services, NC Department of Public Safety, is one of the foremost experts on the diagnosis and treatment of HIV. In this one-hour webinar, he will discuss the evolution of the pandemic and current research and practices that are reducing the likelihood of someone who is HIV positive infecting others.
