The Akron AIDS Collaborative is holding a World AIDS Day Community Forum, hosted by the Northeast Ohio Regional Advisory Group on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 10:00am to 1:30pm at the Akron Urban League. The event is sponsored by AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Taba Aleem, Akron AIDS Collaborative
Lillie Jackson Tisdale, President, National Association of Black Social Workers
Naimah Oneal, The Ohio Working Group for HIV Decriminalization
Kate Boulton, Staff Attorney, Center for HIV Law and Policy

The forum will focus on advancements in HIV/AIDS treatment, as well as the stigma that persists in our community and what is being done to modernize HIV criminal laws in Ohio. The target audience for this event is community leaders, politicians, lawmakers and people living with HIV/AIDS. Participants will hear about major advancements in HIV/AIDS science and their effect on the work to decriminalize HIV. Presenters will also discuss increased trauma and victimization that affect those already in prison under current law. We will review outdated HIV/AIDS non-disclosure laws that are out of sync with the new advancements in HIV/AIDS treatment. Finally, we will assess the current proposed changes to the HIV-related criminal laws in Ohio as drafted by the Ohio State Recodification Committee.
