HIV Criminalization
October 15, 2013
Callen-Lorde, a community health center providing services to New York’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities held a workshop for community outreach workers on HIV criminalization on October 15, 2013, at 2 PM. The workshop featured CHLP Legal Director Iván Espinoza-Madrigal. He discussed national trends on HIV criminalization – the use of criminal law to penalize people living with HIV for conduct that would be indisputably legal if they did not get tested or know their status. This issue has generated considerable public and media attention, most recently concerning the trial of Nushawn Williams in New York.
