Manhattan HIV Care Network Highlights HIV Criminalization (2013)

The Manhattan HIV Care Network dedicated its May 22, 2013 meeting to a discussion of the real-life consequences of HIV-specific criminal laws and prosecutions in New York and across the US. Rashida Richardson explained PJP's multi-pronged campaign to end HIV criminalization, and the Positive Justice Project Consensus Statement on the Criminalization of HIV in the United States. The event produced more supporters of Congresswomen Barbara Lee and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen's REPEAL HIV Discrimination Act  -- and fans of CHLP's H.R. 1843, REPEAL HIV Discrimination Outreach Toolkit.

Organized in 1991, the Manhattan HIV Care Network is a consortium of more than 60 service providers in the community seeking to improve the availability, accessibility, quality, and coordination of services for people living with or affected by HIV. Initiatives include trainings, workshops, community forums, health fairs, and participation in nationwide events such as National Testing Week and National Latino AIDS Awareness Day.
