Recent Developments in HIV Criminalization (2014)

Human Rights Campaign (HRC), as part of its State Strategies series, hosted a discussion on "HIV Criminalization Laws" featuring CHLP Legal Director, Ivan Espinoza-Madrigal, on September 26, 2014. State Strategies is a monthly meeting for state policy professionals in the LGBT/HIV, reproductive rights, and civil rights movements designed to coordinate state advocacy campaigns and state-level policy work. As part of this discussion, Espinoza-Madrigal explained how the criminal law is too often used to prosecute and penalize people living with HIV for conduct that would be legal if they did not get tested or know their status.
