Understanding State Departments of Health and Corrections Collaboration: A Summary of Survey Findings — Part II and Strategic Guidance towards ending criminalization-related stigma and discrimination, NASTAD (2011)
This report by Positive Justice Project member NASTAD provides a summary of health departments' awareness of any policies and practices that unjustly sanction persons living with HIV/AIDS by criminalizing exposure and/or transmission. The survey compared the awareness of health departments about their states' HIV criminalization laws and prosecutions to the laws and prosecutions catalogued in Ending and Defending Against HIV Criminalization: State and Federal Laws and Prosecutions. The results of the NASTAD survey indicate underreporting or mischaracterization of whether state prosecutions had occurred, and whether there is an applicable state law used to prosecute individuals with HIV.
