Letter to President Obama Regarding Anti-LGBTI Laws in Nigeria and Uganda (2014)
This letter to President Obama, from more than 30 U.S.-based HIV, health and human rights advocates, including amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research), the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC), and HIV Medicine Association (HIVMA), addresses recent developments concerning discrimination and violence against LGBTI individuals in Nigeria and Uganda, including the recently signed Anti-Homosexuality Act in Uganda last month. The advocates urge additional steps be taken to immediately protect the lives of LGBTI individuals, reverse discriminatory laws, and requests a meeting with top Administration officials to discuss the 14 recommendations outlined in the letter to address anti-LGBTI laws in these countries.
